Goal Setting in 2021
We’re 3/4 of the way through the first month of 2021 already. How is the New Year going for you thus far?
I’m not big on resolutions as I feel like no one ever takes them seriously. What I am a believer in is setting quantifiable goals for yourself in the New Year. Last year I for the first time wrote my goals down on a piece of paper and taped them in the bathroom, so that I would see them every morning before I started my day. I can honestly say this was a game changer for me in terms of my productivity. Being 100% transparent with you all I didn’t accomplish all of the goals, BUT I did put major dents into all of them.
I did the same thing this year and set 5 goals for 3 different areas of my life: business, personal, and fitness. I encourage you all to do the same and share them with someone you trust to hold you accountable to them over the year.
How to set goals
The act of setting goals is a crucial part of personal development. Goals give you something to work towards and provide you with fuel to keep working when the road isn’t as smooth.
The way I encourage clients to set goals in the gym is by having a big, long term, goal then below the big goal have small “stepping stone” goals that build to the big goal. This approach allows the client to rack up wins to keep them consistent and build confidence throughout the entire journey. This is especially important with something as long term as chasing a big PR on the big 3 or improving your body composition.
Once we have the big goal and some stepping stone goals written down I like to start to lay out a plan of accountability to keep us on track. Some examples of this could be writing your goals on your bathroom mirror, putting your goal out in the world on social media, or having a coach to check in with weekly.

A couple of my goals in 2021 from all 3 categories are business - buy 1 rental property, personal - find one hobby outside of the gym to participate in, fitness - S: 405 B: 240 D: 500.
